Simulation Supported Teacher Training Lesson Modules 

Upon completion of this course, candidate teachers will be able to:

​

  • Develop instructional plans using Gagne's model of instructional situations

  • Identify and understand the components of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge

  • Create effective seating arrangements in the classroom by considering the personality traits of students.

  • Recognize and handle common undesirable behaviors in the classroom through appropriate coping methods.

Description

14-week course content (4 online video lesson modules and 4 lesson plans) was developed to train teachers and teacher candidates through the TÜBÄ°TAK 1002 - Use of Virtual Classroom Simulations in Teacher Training Project conducted by Hasan Kalyoncu University and Gazi University. This course is freely available online for everyone to use, and the YouTube links for the course content are provided below, with all copyrights belonging to the project's faculty members.

Course Contents

Lesson 1: Instructional Planning and Implementation (14.26 Minutes)

  • You will be able to effectively plan, implement and evaluate instructional strategies.

  • You will be able to create instructional plans according to Gagne's model of teaching situations.

  • You will be able to apply the planning according to the nine stages of teaching based on Gagne's Teaching situations model using the Sim in Class simulator.

  • You will have comprehensive understanding of capturing students' attention, communicate learning objectives, reminding preliminary information, presenting content, guiding, revealing performance, feedback, evaluation and permanence of learning.

Lesson 2: Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (15.34 Minutes)

 

  • You will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to give a message about student perceptions by keeping up with the age of the new generation of students.

  • You will master the components of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge.

  • You will have applied skills in the concepts of technology knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, technological content knowledge, technological pedagogical knowledge, and technological pedagogical content knowledge.

Lesson 3: Analysis of Student Characteristics, Different Classroom Seating Arrangements (08.02 Minutes)

  • You will master effective classroom management skills.

  • You will have the chance to study classroom seating arrangements and OCEAN (The Big Five Factors) Theory.

  • You will be able to analyze student characteristics and learn the effect of classroom seating on activities.

Lesson 4: Classroom Management (12.44 Minutes)

  • You will be able to recognize undesirable behaviors in the classroom and apply the methods of dealing with undesirable behaviors correctly.

  • You will see the importance of contemporary classroom management.

  • Sim in Class Simulation Simulation is used to reinforce and practice the course content within a virtual classroom environment.

  • Two different versions of Sim in Class simulation are available for purchase at very affordable prices, one for mobile devices (IOS and Android) and the other for PCs (Windows/Mac desktop/laptop).

  • Institutions or universities using the desktop version of Sim in Class can monitor student performance using the web-based management module.
